What is the basic structure of an atom?

The basic structure of an atom is very simple. The diagram below shows a small illustration of what an atom consists of. The grayish-blue circle represents an electron that circles around the nucleus, which is represented by the hollow circle. The electron has a negative charge. The purple circle in the nucleus is the proton, which has a positive charge. Since there is a one positive charge, and a negative charge of the same amount, this atom would have a nuetral electric charge. Or simply, no charge. The final red circle is the neutron, which as you can tell by its name is nuetral.
