How is matter classified?

Matter is classified as big two part, pure and mixture. Pure and mixtures can be further classified also. We will explain more detail.

1. Pure substance

-Matter composed of only one kind of atom or molecule

* Elements

-Elements are made from the 109 simplest substances form which more complex materials.

-Elements are the simplest pure substances.

*Compounds

-pure substances composed of two or more different elements.

-Compounds are created when atoms of different elements join together in chemical reactions.

2. Mixtures

-A collection of two of more pre substances physically mixed together.

-Mixtures can not represented by a chemical formula.

*Homogeneous mixture

-Mixture containing substances that are uniformly distributed.

-Gasoline, syrup, and salt water

*Heterogeneous Mixture

-Mixture containing substances that are not evenly distributed.

-Human skin cell, Oil and vinegar salad dressing.

Compounds VS Mixtures

You might be hard to distinguish compounds from mixtures but it is important to understand the difference between them. There are 3 principal differences.

1.Mixtures are never made of only a single compound.

2.The properties of mixture reflect the properties of the substances it contains, but the properties of the elements that compose it.

3.Compounds have a definite composition by mass of their combining elements.
