What are acids and bases?

Acids and bases is a classification for items. Some distinctive properties of acids are that they are sour to the taste, their pH level is under seven (the neutral pH), many of them contain hydrogen, and they have poor conductivity. Some examples of everyday acidic products are soft drinks, lemon juice, asprin, and they can be found in many acidic elements.

Bases are generally bitter instead of sour when tasted, and they also have a slippery feeling. Bases react with acids to form salts, and have a pH reading of over seven. Some commonly found bases are many household cleaners, like ammonia, baking soda, and other cleaning products such as laundry detergent and soap.

It is also important to know that acids and bases can neutralize each other. If a strong acid with the pH of one is combined with a strong base with the pH of fourteen, the mixture would be a neutral one.
