What is the batteris?
There are consumable batteries and rechargeable batteries. For consumable batteries there are zinc-carbon batteries that is most common battery and alkaline battery and mercury batter that is hazardous to environment and health. For rechargeable batteries there are electrochemical cells battery and car battery that is a combination of electrochemical and electrolytic cell and ni-cad battery. I will tell you about each battery briefly.

- These are single voltaic cell or group of voltaic cells that are connected together.
- It is a common battery and also known as dry cell, depends on the energy generated by redox reaction involving zinc and manganese dioxide. The electrodes are zinc and carbon, with an acidic paste between them that serves as the electrolyte. Dry-cell batteries should never be recharged because the buildup of product gases can cause the sealed dry cell to explode.
- It is powdered zinc carbon cell bridged by KOH paste. It differs from a dry cell in that is uses KOH instead of NH4Cl. KOH is base, so the electrolyte paste in this type of battery is alkaline. No gases are formed in an alkaline battery reaction, and no unwanted side reaction occur to reduce the voltage generated by the redox reaction.
- It is close to relative of the alkaline battery. The production of liquid mercury, a poisonous metal that can cause serious health and environmental problems, is a serious disadvantage for mercury batteries.
- It is an electrochemical cell in which electric energy from an external source causes a non spontaneous redox reaction to occur.
It is rechargeable. External voltage source must be applied to the battery¡¯s electrodes so that all half-reactions are reversed and the electrodes are returned to their original state.
- It is rechargeable and lightweight. It is becoming popular.
